A busy month and a rough month as well. My uncle Derek died just before Easter and it left me a bit grief-stricken so I took some time off my regular Instagram posts. I also kind of got my First art commission. I did manage to keep up the music writing.
ART
The Commison
A friend of mine and my brother’s best friend contacted me soon after posting the oil painting I did last month for my own wall asking about a little digital wave painting I did he thought it was a physical painting and wanted to buy it.
I told him it was digital and he offered to pay me to recreate it in Oils. So I made a deal. I would do I in oil and he would donate whatever he would have paid me to the red cross or some other charity that is helping in ukraine.
Here are a few process pictures of the painting which is almost complete. mostly it just needs to dry and be varnished.
I am pretty happy with it. though I occasionally get nervous cause it’s not just a piece for my own satisfaction. My friend has to like it too…
I am also working on this monstrosity, it’s a self-portrait but I painted the eyes too low. I’m going to attempt to fix that today. anyway, it’s art: sometimes it’s good sometimes it’s shit. it’s only the underpainting anyway.
Music
I am still writing music . and prepping for my grade 8 cello exam. which will probably be in the winter. (they are still offering online exams that don’t need an accompanist). I also had a friend come over to play music with me over easter. Playing with other people is something I rarely do and would like to do more of.
I wrote 8 pieces this month. including a piece to kind of celebrate my uncle’s life. a dark piece in the Phrygian mode and some other experiments all of which can be listed too here as part of my year f writing music challenge. which I am way ahead on 12 more to hit my target.
here are my favourite ones from this month. i am going to have to learn to perform some of this music soon.
Other than that I have just been doing Noom. trying in vain to lose the weight I have packed on but between funerals and birthdays it hasn’t been easy. but when Is healthy weightloss ever easy.
