Editing has begun

February 19th, 2018
I have started editing my book. Beginning with a first pass read through. This is unknown territory for me so this process feels a little bit like groping in the dark. I have written things before but I have never worked on the editing side of writing. I tried before with abandoned projects but my inner critic drove me away.

this time is different. I am still reading the parts written while I was on chemo. there are a lot of comments on the pdf saying ‘what does this mean?’ I was sick and in a constant brain fog and not always good with the spellcheck.  In the first 50 pages, I have more than 200 notes. My export settings were a little bit wrong so it has 500 pages to go through. anyway, big fonts make it easy to read.

There is a lot to do. After I finish reading, the planning and edits will take a lot of time and effort.

It is strange to go back to a paragraph and have to ask “Is this even English?”

I  have always had problems going back over what I wrote. it always Left me frustrated. that ideas I had in my head didn’t come so clear when they were written on the page.  I am learning to cope with that, by pretending this is someone else’s work.

When I watch a movie. I tend to see the story gaps and flaws. For example where magic breaks its own rules. or something doesn’t make sense based on what happened earlier. I’m doing that here. laughing at my own mistakes and leaving sarcastic comments. it seems to be working for me at this early stage.
