Repeal the 8th
So guys Its the day before the vote to repeal the 8th. It is this generation’s chance to step up and show that we believe women have the right to their own bodies and make their own healthcare choices.
Like three years ago it has been a vicious and difficult campaign. I can only imagine how difficult it is for the women who had to endure the no sides rhetoric and offensive posters and media. I know there are a lot of people who want and need this to pass. I have friends who have needed abortions. some of were lucky and lived in places where they are accessible some had to travel overseas.
There are so many brave women who told their personal stories and stood up to get to this point.
I am voting yes because I believe a woman should have a choice about what happens in her body.
A woman should be able to go through chemo without fear getting pregnant and having to stop her treatment.
nobody should have to go to jail for longer than their rapist because she couldn’t go through with a mentally damaging pregnancy.
Women should own their own bodies.
Abortion is not something women do for fun. it is always a tough choice to make.
A no vote means nothing changes, nothing improves. The no campaigners who say ‘it is too broad so vote no and come up with something better’. would use that no vote to prevent any case for abortion. not for health reasons, not in the case of rape not even if the foetus will never be viable. They would be able to say ‘the people said no.’ and women would still have to make that lonely journey to England. or risk their lives with god knows what pills they order online.
So I would like to encourage everyone to vote yes. Voting is important. the government are our employees we need to keep them in check. voting is how we tell them what to do and whats important.
Lastly, the marriage referendum was painful to me. the posters and horrible things I heard online and on tv at the time really damaged my mental health. I imagine it is the same for people affected by this referendum. if you need help please go get it. talk your friends, family or a counsellor.
good luck, go vote and don’t fuck it up
