REVIEW The art of asking

December 13th, 2014

Being a huge Amanda palmer fan I got so excited when she announced the book. And I watched it unfold through her twitter.  now I have just finished reading it and figure I should break my silence to review it.
It’s Amazing
And if you take away my fanboyish nature.

It’s still amazing.

Made of equal Parts memoir  advice columb confessional and love letter to the fans this book not only tells the story of her Kickstarter success and subsequent Ted talk.  It connects to the real experience that is asking.
I related to this book and the concept of asking and how difficult it can be.
Here’s a story
My career fell apart a few months back and I needed help to start rebuilding. Enter my fiancé.  When stepped in keeping a roof over my head and offering to pay for the essentials like food. It made me sick to accept the help to get over the hump. But I let him help. He offered without question.  Reading Amanda’s story about struggling to ask her husband I think we both struggled to accept somthing form someone who is willing and able to give.  Getting over the hesitation took work  it involved swallowing my pride dropping the inhibitions around what my partner and the world might think of me,
Reading Amanda’s story was somthing that made me realise that was the point where it hurt enough to get off the nail and ask for the help I needed.
Amandas book is insightful beautiful and a great read.  One of those books you can reread and get a new message every time. This is a book that makes me want to be brave and push myself to get out there with art, music and relationships.

It’s time to ask and push to get things going again.

Buy the book read the book and love the book. maybe review the book or gift it to a friend who needs the book
