Rucking – because I don’t run

November 25th, 2017
In my new quest to get fit, I am trying something new having stalled a little. So I have decided to try adding rucking to my routine. I am trying to lose more weight by making m dog walks more challenging. So the big question to go with this?

What the hell is rucking?

Rucking is throwing a backpack with 20 to thirty pounds worth of weight on your back and going for a walk. goruck.com bills it as cardio for people who hate cardio. and I hate cardio. it has its origins with US special forces. where they do exercise drills that bare petty much that except with a 100-pound weight. I don’t see myself doing the 100-pound weight anytime soon.
Where it is handy is it doesn’t feel like I am adding anything extra to my day. Unlike going to the gym and yoga. I have to walk my dogs anyway. So all I have to do is remember to pick up my backpack before I go. From what I read and hours rucking is roughly equivalent to running a 5k in terms of calorie burn. One thing I have noticed is I am not sure my Fitbit can track rucking which I don’t mind. I am measuring my calories on Fitbit and my fitness pall (they are linked). I don’t want any extra calorie burn I do to add to my still available calories for the day. they extra calories need to come off my belly.

Why is rucking appealing to me?

Rucking is good for me because it is a mindless activity. Putting it on my back is the hard part the rest is something I would have been doing anyway. What I look forward to seeing is if it yields results. I have roughly 10 weeks until my suit fitting. So I need to be back close to my pre-cancer weight. Halfway there. I am hoping rucking will help by keeping me pushing the cardio and dropping my weight, in a healthy way. I am also on the lookout for other ways to increase my exercise. rucking and yoga are the primary things I am doing. but I still have work to do. and I would like to avoid joining a Gym or Slimming World.
